Each year around Christmas time, the members of St. Matthew's and our sister congregations in the area team up to bring Benton Harbor "Project Christmas". Through an application process and help from InterCare, we select the names of 90-100 families who are in need. These families are then "adopted" by different groups, families, and churches throughout the area.
The second Saturday of December is when the fun happens! All of the families are invited to come to our school building for a hot meal, and to "shop" through our thrift store clothing, and pick up their food and gifts.
We accept families of all sizes and from all communities in the area. Apply early; we fill quickly!
Each family selected for Project Christmas receives:
- A large box of non-perishable food items
- A large bag of apples
- A ham and/or turkey
- Multiple gifts for each person in the family
- Sometimes larger items that a family needs are also provided, such as popts and pans, bedding, or a crib!
